# Phasing and Implementation Timeline

## Overview

Vanilla takes 3–4 years to first harvest and breadfruit 3–5 years to significant production, so early planting is critical. The plan phases work to build soil, establish infrastructure, and plant long-lead crops first.

## Phase 1: Foundation (Months 1–6, Feb–Aug 2026)

- [ ] Complete site analysis (soil tests, topography mapping, tree inventory)
- [ ] Develop detailed planting plan and spatial layout
- [ ] Begin composting program (horse pasture biomass, kitchen waste)
- [ ] Plant nitrogen fixers and cover crops to start building soil
- [ ] Source vanilla cuttings and breadfruit starts
- [ ] Identify and prepare first planting zones
- [ ] Install any needed irrigation infrastructure

## Phase 2: Establishment (Months 7–18, Sep 2026–Aug 2027)

- [ ] Plant breadfruit trees in designated canopy positions
- [ ] Plant vanilla cuttings with support trees/trellises
- [ ] Establish understory and ground cover plantings
- [ ] Continue soil building (chop-and-drop, compost, biodynamic preps)
- [ ] Begin training vanilla vines

## Phase 3: Growth and Diversification (Years 2–3)

- [ ] Expand plantings as Phase 2 areas establish
- [ ] Add secondary income crops (cacao, turmeric, ginger, etc.)
- [ ] Begin planning value-add processing facility
- [ ] First vanilla flowers may appear (year 3)

## Phase 4: Early Production (Years 3–5)

- [ ] First vanilla harvest and curing
- [ ] Breadfruit beginning meaningful production
- [ ] Value-add processing online (vanilla curing, breadfruit flour, etc.)
- [ ] Establish sales channels and brand

## Phase 5: Maturity (Years 5+)

- [ ] Full production from vanilla and breadfruit
- [ ] Diversified product line
- [ ] Farm tours / agritourism potential
- [ ] System largely self-sustaining
